  • I'm glad Grosjean survived without any harm, but if you look at it the crash was 100% his fault he turned in on Kvyat and caused it. It could have definitely been avoidable, and I absolutely sympathize with him surviving but its because of situations like this he's known as Crashjean.

  • It is too safe today. Drivers wouldn't hang around so long if they were really in fear of being killed in the car. Records keep getting broken because of safety improvements. Nobody should walk away from a crash like that. But make no mistake, Grosjean caused the crash by turning in to Kvyat. I didn't like the idea of the halo but actually it doesn't detract from the sport visuially.

  • Regardless of the fact that they drive around like the cars are of full of lead weight, I am a Haas fan. I met Gene Haas when he came to oversee the installation of a Haas 5 axis milling center at the tech school I went to in North Carolina in 2009 just after he joined forces with Tony Stewart in NASCAR and well before Haas F1 was founded. Living in the pacific time zone, I either have to stay up super late or wake up super early to catch most F1 races, so I was nursing my fourth cup of coffee when the lights went out on Sunday... Sitting here on my sofa, watching those fires rage... That is going to take a LONG time to forget. The deaths of Dale Earnhardt Sr and Adam Petty helped save the lives of NASCAR drivers. It was the safety innovations following Dan Wheldon's death helped save the lives of Indy Car drivers like Dario Franchitti. Without Sebastien Enjolras and Allan Simonsen and others, Memo Gidley would have died behind the wheel of the GainsCo Red Dragon at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Jules Bianchi is the reason that Romain Grosjean's children didn't lose their father, and the reason that multiple other drivers have be able to escape serious injury this season. There is no "safe" motorsport, I learned that as a kid racing mini-cup throughout the American south... Freak accidents, unpredictable flukes, unlucky chances, all of these haunt race tracks around the globe. I have scars to this day from an accident, and that was just in kids car which was basically just a kart with a replica full car body on it with a little honda engine. Top level race drivers like those found in F1, IMSA, WEC, NASCAR, INDY etc are truly real-life Jedi.

  • As someone who's been severely against halo, I'm officially stopping doubting the importance of halo. We've had incidents until now where it was said the halo saved someone's life. But from what I've seen, the "saved someone's life" was an overinflated statement. The situation was definitely less dangerous, but saving someone's life was still kind of debatable. In this incident I however have to unconditionally surrender to halo.

  • Probably the most brilliant aspect was Romain himself, who had the abilitiy to unbuckle himself whilst covered in flames, most likely disorientated, extract himself from a tight position, and then respond to the most likely urgings from the marshall/doctor the head towards them. I dare say a lot of people would have panicked in such a situation losing vital seconds and options.

You need a professional to put the flames around the driver out, cut him loose and pull him out ON TIME. The capsule around the driver did exactly what it was designed to do. GROSJEAN GOT OUT BY HIMSELF.

Some did not understand why he wanted to make racing safer and if he could not live with the danger then he should find another job! Motorsport will never be 100% safe, but it could always be safer. Also not forgetting the tremendous contribution of Prof. Sid Watkins.

    StarfleetCommand71StarfleetCommand71Hónapja
  • I think i found a reason of how the car caught fire, here's why So, when you split the car in half the fuel tank is in the middle of the car, and when it split in half, the fuel tank is also split in half. Due to the car only starting the race the tank had barely lost any fuel So when the car split in half about a full tank spilled on the raging hot engine causing to make the huge fire. Like if this made you understand more
