I loved it from day 1
The Critical Drinker, with recent situation with Gina I think its perfect time to talk about the movie Rollerball (1975). Im sure you remember the classic and legendary ending.
@Breezy x I made it through the first 10 minutes. Not my kind of film.
Drinker, Stanley Kubrick did all of his films since Dr.Strangelove in England. Sure this is a nitpick as he was financed by US studios, but still a nice fact to know. So the picture of 2001 A Space Odyssey is made in England. Anyway, that's all I got for you today. I'll go away now.
Hey Drinker what do you think about Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch 2011?
I disagree. Mila is the ONLY reason this movie got ANYTHING! Adam
I have watched this a shit load. Back when sci fi was interesting. The last thing that I can think of (that's good) that seems similar is firefly/serenity
Mate, do a review on Primer made by Shane Carruth in 2004.
Firing chicken nuggets at a fat positivity activist. Im dying in laughter. Haha
One of my favourite films of all time, epic entertainment with some of the most quoteable lines in cinema history
I always thought it was cool getting Chinese food straight from your balcony
I'd rather watch chris tucker's character in this movie than watch the SHIT of today.
Mila was one of my very first celeb crushes, hands down
The movies was simply fun to watch.
The Fifth Element is like the bad rip off of itself. Like the Turkish Superman etc
Just about my favorite movie ever. Never went to see it in the theater because the trailer and ads were non existent.
Just watched it for the first time, loved it
This movie is pure passion and creativity.
It’s the little things, like the size of the filter vs tobacco in the cigarettes, that make this such a labour of love and a joy to watch 👍🏽
I had forgotten it before this video. It is funny how much we overlap in our tastes and interest, but then have such extreme differences in a few things.
do Valerian next. really curious what the critical drinker thinks of that one. i think it's fuckin underrated.
Excellent summary and review, one of best films of the mid 90’s
It's an absolute classic, featured so many people in their prime too, Even had my man Lee evans in there. Love it
This is one of the movies I could probably quote at will I've seen so many times. Milla Jovovich was probably my first uhhh celebrity girl-boy awakening thing, if you know what I mean. Truly a movie to just enjoy, nothing more nothing less. Shame about Valerian though.
It really shows just how bad modern films are when you have nostalgia over this
I saw this in the theater back in ‘97 and it’s still one of my favorite sci-fi movies. Not too hard nowadays since all Hollywood puts out is trash.
Omg, tricky was there
Regarding the film's look, feel, and style, I believe that Luc Besson was channeling Heavy Metal magazine. He wanted to create a film that carried the gestalt of the French magazine, that had been popular across the continents for over a decade. So, the look and style of the film emulates the designs by Mobius, Enki Bilal, and other comic creators. It's quite amazing in that regard, bringing to live action film the quirky science fiction subculture of Heavy Metal magazine.
Probably my all time favorite movie.
I loved the movie for what it is, entertainment, critics go home!
multi pass?
To summarise: Earth is basically a farm, the big bad believes he will be ruling over a new garden of Eden to prepare for when the entity returns for another feast, and LeLu is a some sort of generically modified human that contains a special element that binds the other four together and creates a super weapon.. LeLu's outfit though 👀 Real world Jesus was male and got nailed to a cross. Why couldn't we have this one instead!?
The 90’s the peak of Hollyweird before the Woke and politically motivated agendas started.
1:04 - He was the only character that I liked. 2:36 - YAAAAY!!!
One of my very favorite movies of all time. "Father, what does ECTO GAMMOT mean"?
It is a beautiful special movie
I had an ex who surprised me on my 21st birthday sexy Cosplay style dressed as Leeloo. Even down to the multipass. Needless to say I have enjoyed the memories since lol.
She has over two hundred thousand DNA memo groups...that obviously means she can read any language XD. The universe's super uber kickass ultimate sweetheart, should be able to read every known language i mean, supreme being... also the fat aliens spoke english, i imagine from hanging around earth before so why couldn't they have taught her? not too big a jump if you ask me. I just love how they made Lilu awesome without the tiniest hint of modern feminism, but then again it was 1997 and humans were just becoming woke. I loved this film too, even Ruby Rodd. Nowadays these characters don't seem unusual at all ROFL, but back in the 90s, this was a roller coaster of wackiness.
I admit, I was not a fan of it when it was released. Haven't seen it since so I don't know if my opinion would change now.
The production design on this movie was insane, costumes by Jean Paul Gautier and world design by Jean 'Mobius' Girraud who drew The Silver Surfer comic for Marvel and also designed the human tech and the Nostromo sets on Ridley Scott's Alien 👽
I have to say Brother.....you are without question one of the most entertaining guys out there.....I love your crass and self effacing nature couple with some fucking razor sharp wit and stellar observations.....I appreciate and applaud you my friend....you should have millions of subs .....and that is a sincere non hyperbolic comment.....I wish you continued success I tell everyone I know about you...hope that helps and I look forward to your content moving forward ..cheers
The 5th! one of my favorites
Ruby Rod literally became profecy one of the best characters ever.
Great movie please do The Big Hit. I think you will like it.
Anyone enjoy Valerian?
One of my favorite movies
LMAO At the meth head the first time I saw this : ))
3:21 exactly what I thought !!
Fast paced, visual storytelling. Kinda like a Movie !!
Ruby Rod makes me laugh my ass off EVERY TIME I see him lol never gets old.... hahaha his paint roller hair sticking out and Korbin Dallas is like wtf lookin at it haha
If you like this movie, then I highly recommend watching the 4 Luc Besson written "Taxi" films, they're almost just as weird and crazy. + you get to see Marion Cotillard's boobs.
I've seen it 7 times, time for one more :) Thank you. Cheers!
You might want to have a look at The Big Blue, another one of Besson's 'good' films.
Whenever I hear any sort of opera-y melodic singling, I think of the blue lady
We should also mention the impact of the work of grand master Moebius in this film.
Absolutely love this movie. It’s soooo bloody good!
I found this film to be immensely enjoyable the first time I saw it. The first time.
Hey, my dad did the sound for this movie. Was nominated for an academy award, too....but lost to titanic. I’m biased, but I thought this was better.
definitely more of Aldous Huxley a brave new world and not George orwell 1984. But I feel at times its more PEE WEE big adventure.
I love this movie. Great vid.
6:50 She put them right next to her organs, you know, the ones that woman hating feminists complain about with girls that are tiny...
This was so much better than "Lucy." The phrase "bombarded with greasy solar atoms" could have appeared in either movie, but you know that "Lucy" was somehow incredibly taking the pseudoscience seriously, while "Element" was just having fun. Ah, well. At least Morgan Freeman got a boatload of cash for what were essentially voice overs; good for him.
I used to have trouble deciding which movie was my all-time favorite. Then I remembered Fifth Element existed.
One of my very favorite movies! Such fun!
Definitely a lot of European fashion stuff in the movie, including Milla and various designers.
Amazing Film - watched it again last night - along with V for Vendetta & Constantine
I love Ruby Rod
Moebius
Whisky actually covers two elements: fire and water.
Still curious how Prince would have fared as Ruby Rhod. He was their first choice. Love Chris Tucker’s interpretation. But Prince?
The Fifth Element is Love. The End.
Mila is playing Illumina- I mean Lilo.
the fifth element is love btw. love conquers all btw.
ARYANS RULE WE GET IT HOLLYWOOD
Lmao I love the appreciation for Ruby Rhod in the comments after Critical Drinker pretty much didn't care for him. But people can disagree like adults. Still he was my favorite in the movie!
Its "Heavy Metal". The cab driver part. Instead of a voluptuous red head its a skinny red head.
"Epic Melodrama of Star Wars..." - WTF are you talking about? I've had more Drama during a dump.
this movie is entertaining in an over the top way. 5 *, would watch again and again.
You should stop drinking, my friend! Anyway, I mostly liked this movie, although sometimes it's too weird for me. But I guess that's what makes it special!
I love it, always have 👍
Mila did Joan Of Arc as her first role. I remember it was a great movie for its time, at its time. Don't know how it would stand up now, since you can't really find it.
I can understand why someone would hate this movie, but I still wouldn’t ever want to be friends with them.
Perfectly said. Love it or hate it. You won’t forget it. Cool movie.👍🥃
Well, what can you say about the 5th Element ?, I get that not all people will get it & the fact it was directed by some weird artsy French director is no surprise, but I recommend everyone do this trip at least once. It is on my short list of DVD's to put on if you are having trouble picking a movie, bet you won't watch it just once.
I freakin love this movie!! Can't say how many times I've seen it! And your so right. It is quite a breath of fresh air from all the rehashed shit Hollywood dumps out!
I love this movie. saw it in the theater when it came out and I did NOT like it the first time. somehow it grew on me over time. the crack addict robber at the front door was my favorite character: "give me the cashshshsh". I wonder if Luc wasn't trying to make almost a musical. the sound and music edits are incredible. oh and Ruby Rhod ROCKED.
The only character that annoys me in this movie is the President, who has the charisma and intelligence of a bag of rocks.
Ha, ha, ha! You have a hilarious voice and an interesting concept to describe things!
I love Ruby. he was fucking hilarious back then, and he's fucking hilarious now.
Amen! He maybe over the top but the character isn't there long enough to be annoying. Frankly he was a breathe of fresh air with all the serious characters up to that point.
Dude, seriously, you are SO damned good at this. I've seen the film countless times and I haven't even noticed the plot holes because I just love it so damned much.
Mmmm, cheekan
I absolutely love this movie! Cheers, mate!
this cast was amazing all around, and this movie still holds up as one of my favs to this very day. it's fantastic... and i stand by Ruby Rhod's character! Chris Tucker ran with that role and was awesome. Sorry, Drinker, but i can't agree with u on this one. that's an actor making bold choices and being awesome for it.
I would love to see a review of another Luc besson movie Leon the professional
Ruby....shit character played by an actor with a voice that could crack a pint glass.
5th element is one of the best movies ever. It makes every character memorable, with character and each one is even relevant to the plot, even the girl!
I can't get over it that you didn't mention how good Corben Dallas is at negotiating
I tried watching this. I just couldn't. Your voice. It sounds like you are trying to talk and take a shit at the same time.
Anyone remember the Fifth Element game?
0:18 I watched Russian scifi films like Solaris and Stalker a long time ago and found them haunting, but yeah, if you want action look elsewhere.
This movie is always a fun ride
I want a prequel about Ruby 🥰
I love the 5th element. The plot holes don't matter at all! Whether they are there to lampshade some cliche or just because, they don't detract from the movie at all. It's not that kind of movie. Much like in porn, the story is just a setup for the ride, except instead of fucking, this movie involves a heady mix of badassery, humor, action, and absurdity that is just awesome as fuck. It's full of these "little things", ideas, lines, scenes that make you smile, or rather grin like an idiot. Whether it's Chekov's Gun subverted by an actual gun, Dallas's "negotiation" methods, or that "timers" scene. And the characters are portrayed perfectly. Played to the hilt. Sure, it doesn't explore the depths of the human condition, but that's not a bad thing. Not all sci fi has to. This film is silly, but it manages to be good at it, something that so often falls flat and just becomes cringeworthy.
Zork was a phenomenal character. I mean, you take the typical evil villain and give him THAT accent. It's just ridiculous, like most of this movie, which was what made the movie so great.
