Mike, Jay and Rich Evans talk about the 4 hour long version of The Justice League aka "The Snyder Cut"!

  • I'm still waiting for the circumcised cut....... My penis has a hood. His villain name is the pink hood. He tells me what to do like the Ventriloquist from Batman the animated series. He threatens to give me a reason to be called scar face if I don't do what he says. It's not so bad I guess, but his beard is really itchy. And the little curly-Q sideburns are super meta ironic.

  • Funny that you said that at 23:56, because in the 2017's version, the JL waited AND watched while one the scientist got their neck snapped, while in ZSJl version, the JL just go and save the civilian without any casualties.

  • Interesting review of the Snyder cut. I have to disagree that the Snyder cut contains any pacing issues or wasted time. Every second of it has a purpose (an example, "evil Superman", below). I'm also a bit confused. What is this "theatrical version" of which you speak? Is it possible that some repressed cinematic trauma resides in my subconscious? You're absolutely right that comical quips from Batman and Superman are doomed to fail. Batman is to dark for it to work, and Superman is to powerful to be frivolous. Even the Flash has limits; he's simply too clean and innocent, and can pull it off only when surrounded by the gravitas of the scene and/or other characters. You missed some essential points, though. Since this wasn't a theatrical version, Snyder could afford not to make any compromises to compress the story for not story related reasons. I'm sure that a theatrical Snyder cut would've been shorter. However, I also think shortening it too much would've been a commercial mistake. Making it three hours long, with an intermission (you don't want the audience to piss their pants) would've made in an _event._ It would also have the audience make a sacrifice that would force them to be enthusiastic in their praise of the experience, simply to justify the sacrifice. The movie was also sufficiently good that walking out in the middle would stigmatize you as a weak willed philistine. In short, a theatrical cut by Snyder would've had the potential to become a pop-culture phenomenon, and create a market, rather than going after Marvel's scraps. In the Snyder cut, Superman coming back as evil was a questioning of what the soul is, and the source of morality and purpose; Superman returned as an empty, "soulless" vessel. The answer given to the question is, pretty much, that the individual microcosm of closer, personal, and "small" issues like love, family, individual survival is what motivates even the greatest, most idealistic heroes to make sacrifices for the whole of humanity; only once Superman has restored those "small" connections is he connected enough to humanity to take on the rescue of the entire World. It also justifies Batman's concern in _Batman v Superman,_ by showing us the danger of a soulless Superman, and how much we require our heroes to be fundamentally good; if they're not, they're much worse than just worthless. The treatment of superheroes as opposed to regular people isn't about "fetishising" them (except, perhaps, as an abstraction of the most original, religious sense), and certainly not about personal fetishising. It's epic, mythological storytelling. The Superheroes are the new protectors of humanity, taking the place of the Olympic gods and heroes. They're the new Zeus, Hercules, Poseidon, etcetera. In fact, you can clearly see traits of these mythological characters in the superheroes. Finally: Superman *had to* come back. The connection between this movie and _Batman v Superman_ is that killing our heroes is disastrous; we need them.

The reason why we got a four hour version now is because he fought for free reign and creative control for the HBOMax release and got to add back EVERYTHING he wanted.

The ingredients of the film, is still far better than anything joss fuckface ever does. Snyder when he fails doesnt fail because hes "grim dark", thats what makes him GOOD. He fails because his stories sometimes are a weird 13 year olds retarded fever dream. Which might not even be his fault i guess, could be the writers trying to cram in too much fuckin' dumb into too small a box.

  • I totally underestimated just how much they'd butchered this movie. I'm no DC-Verse enthusiast, but seeing the intended vs the delivered... it was shocking. Everything they took out, everything they put in... it's like a room full of actual, fully dressed clowns were making these decisions! All they had to do was... -Ditch Martian Manhunter completely (a shoehorn looks less shoehorny than that cameo) -Lose every epilogue scene (push future scene to post credit if you must) -Remove the bit about young Darkseid having known he'd found anti-life before his defeat, history scene otherwise unchanged (therefore closing a multifaceted plot-hole) -Trim the slow motion here and there (leave Flash scenes alone) -A few filler snips that otherwise leave scenes unchanged (change nothing from Steppenwolf vs Thermascara, that was flawless) ...that's all they would've had to do in Snyder's absence. They could have definitely whittled it down to 3 hours for a tighter version of the same movie, and I believe the theatrical reception would have given the DC-Verse a fighting chance against the MCU. It would have made a DC-Verse fan out of me! Instead, they did what they did, and we got a garbage pail of a reshoot that Henry Cavill didn't even deem worth a shave. I hope WB caves in and offers Snyder the chance to continue... and I hope he says no. That is a middle finger he absolutely deserves to throw to those asshats.
